Welcome to the O'Rourke Library Media Center - Where Reading Rocks! The media center supports Alabama's School Library Media Paln for the 21st Century Learner, the basis of our curriculum program, and the Information Literacy Skills published by the American Association of School Librarians and the American Library Association.
Mission Statement "Our library is committed to providing quality print and electronic resources while fostering information literacy skills through effective research and retrieval as well as developing a lifelong love of reading."
The O'Rourke Elementary Library Media Center uses Athena as its automated management system. Athena may be accessed from any computer throughout the schooll. We provide open access for all students. The media center is open from 8:30 to 2:00 daily. Teachers may accompany their class to the media center at any time during the school day to use the computers or to do research. They simply need to reserve a time on the calendar located inside the media center. Because collaborative planning between the classroom teacher and the library media specialist is important to the learning process, the library media center serves as an extension of the classroom. Through collaborative planning, students have the chance to gain knowledge through varied learning opportunities. Books are checked out for one (1) week. No books are checked out to students who have overdue books. No fines are charged for overdue books; however, students must pay to replace lost or damaged books.
